Bad Governance at Work. This is Woodward Street -- the main street in Detroit. It is a living testament to Detroit’s City Council – dysfunction, incompetence, and total disregard of Detroit’s citizens. As you can see the lights are off. After years of financial abuse, the city bourgeoisie (City Council) has no money to pay for electricity… but it has money to pay itself.

Detroit’s City Council is one of the most expensive in the nation. Each council member earns receives $73,181. Charles Pugh, the council president, earns gets $76,911. Don’t forget extended holidays and benefits! Each council member uses more than $700,000 a year to hire employees and set up an office. They cost us about $13 million a year.

Nobody knows what they need staff and offices for, as they are elected at large and have no executive responsibility.

On the other hand, Phoenix, AZ, is home to 1,445,632 people, double of Detroit, and has only 8 part-time city council members. They earn less than 30K. Detroit has 9 full-time council members.  Read more>
